I am delighted to welcome National Family Week. It's full of practical ideas, and it will be great to see organisations from all sections of society join together to celebrate family life. There is nothing more important to families than the strength of their relationships, and the focus in National Family Week on allowing families to spend quality time together reflects that fact. The Week is a great idea, and I look forward to its success.

National Family Week is an annual media event celebrating the value of family life in the UK, taking place during the summer half term holiday.
Launched in May 2009, National Family Week is endorsed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the leaders of all major UK political parties as well as many influential celebrities.
We are supported by over 160 national organisations including The National Federation of Women's Institutes and The National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations, making us the biggest coalition on family issues in the UK.
National Family Week 2009 saw over 4,000 official events take place across the UK from picnics to sports days, talent shows to story telling sessions. Nearly 250,000 people attended the official events, but millions more engaged with The Week at home, at work or through our retail partners.
No two families are alike and we celebrate diversity. We support a range of initiatives to improve rights for families of every shape and size and we use the strength of our media presence to bring about change for the better.
Our first Family of The Year was crowned in 2009. The Stevens' from Berkshire were chosen for their outstanding contribution to family life in their community. In 2010 we'll be searching for the Family of The Year again, in association with our broadcast and print media partners.
National Family Week 2010 will be even bigger and better, engaging millions of families across the UK through our official events and our extensive broadcast, print and digital media coverage.
